Course Overview
This class refines handgun fundamentals while introducing the advantages of a pistol-mounted optic (PMO). Students will learn optic types, setup, and benefits—from improved performance for aging eyes, to faster single-plane sighting, to using the dot as a self-diagnostic tool.
Course Objectives
Students will be able to:
- Identify PMO types and their pros/cons
- Zero optics and understand parallax
- Rapidly acquire and track the dot
- Apply core marksmanship skills
- Perform reloads and clear malfunctions
- Use the dot for performance diagnostics
- Engage multiple targets and varied sight pictures
- Work through occluded/damaged optics
- Shoot effectively on the move
- Transition between targets with speed
- Execute single-hand shooting (dominant/support)
Required Gear
- Quality semi-auto pistol
- 3+ magazines with pouches
- Strong-side belt/hip holster (no IWB)
- Sturdy 1.5" belt, long pants with loops, closed-toe shoes, crew-neck/button-up shirt
- Wraparound eye protection (polycarbonate or prescription)
- Hearing protection (electronic recommended)
- Hydration and weather gear
- Optional: body armor
